vegetable ball manchurian

Vegetable ball manchurian is one of my favourite Indo Chinese food. I was looking for this dish in almost all restaurants near my place. Finally, my search ended up with a little disappointment. So, i decided to make this manchurian at home itself. This came out really well. Found it easy too. So, here is the recipe:)

Ingredients

vegetable manchurian balls
  • grated mixed vegetables 1 cup each (carrot, cabbage, cauliflower, green bell peppers, green beans)
  • chopped garlic 6pods
  • chopped ginger 1inch
  • chopped green chillies 4
  • cornflour 2tbsp
  • egg 1 (optional)
  • cooked rice 1cup
  • soy sauce 1tbsp
  • ajinomoto a pinch
  • salt to taste
  • canola oil for deep frying
For the gravy
  • finely chopped onion 1cup
  • chilli garlic sauce 2tbsp
  • vegetable stock 2cups
  • chopped garlic 2tbsp
  • soy sauce 2tbsp
  • green chilli 1tsp
  • freshly ground pepper 2tsp
  • corn flour water 2tbsp
  • spring onions 3tbsp
  • salt to taste

Method
  • cook the grated vegetables in enough water for 3-5minutes. do not overcook it as the vegetables are already grated and takes very less time to get cooked.
  • squeeze the vegetables thoroughly using a clean cloth. Use this squeezed water in the gravy as vegetable stock.
  • add all the other ingredients from chopped garlic to salt and make small round balls out of this mixture. deep fry these vegetable balls in hot oil until you get a nice golden brown color. keep these fried balls aside.
  • heat 1tbsp of oil in a pan and saute chopped onions, garlics, green chillies in it. Add chilli garlic sauce, soy sauce, pepper powder, required salt and 2cups of vegetable stock to it. Allow this to boil for about 5 minutes.
  • Add 2tbsp of corn flour mixed in water to the boiling gravy. let it boil for another 2minutes till you get a nice thick gravy.
  • While serving, drop the fried balls in thick sauce and sprinkle some spring onions over it. Enjoy eating this with fried rice or butter naan.
